The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the recruitment of 1,050 Biometric Voter Verification Kit (BVVK) Trainers on short-term contract basis as part of preparations for the 2025/2026 General Elections.
In an external job advert, the Commission said it is seeking suitably qualified Ugandans with proven integrity, initiative, and the ability to work under minimum supervision to support the deployment and operation of the Biometric Voter Verification System (BVVS) during the election period.
According to the advert, the BVVK Trainer positions are distributed at a ratio of three trainers per county, with successful applicants to be stationed at District Electoral Commission Offices. The trainers will report to the District Returning Officer or the Head of the Information Technology Department, depending on assignment.
The primary role of a BVVK Trainer is to train biometric voter verification kit operators and provide technical IT support before, during, and after polling. Key responsibilities outlined by the Commission include preparing training environments, developing and updating training materials, and conducting hands-on training sessions on the Biometric Voter Verification System.
Trainers will also be responsible for explaining technical concepts in simple terms, providing one-on-one support to trainees, troubleshooting system challenges, maintaining training records, and documenting technical incidents for reporting purposes. In addition, BVVK Trainers will support testing, simulation exercises, and provide technical assistance at polling stations on election days.
Applicants must possess a minimum of a Diploma from a recognized institution, while a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Business Computing, or related fields is considered an added advantage.
The Commission also indicated that experience in training or capacity building, familiarity with Android smart devices, and prior exposure to election technology systems such as BVVS will be advantageous. Applicants must be registered voters in the district of their choice and demonstrate high levels of integrity and confidentiality.
The engagement period for BVVK Trainers will be three months, covering the pre-election, election day, and post-election phases, with exact deployment timelines to be determined by the Electoral Commission.
The EC emphasized that successful candidates must be willing to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends, given the high-stakes nature of election operations.
Interested candidates are required to submit typed applications accompanied by a comprehensive curriculum vitae, copies of certified academic transcripts and certificates, a copy of the National Identification Card, and two passport-size photographs. Applicants must also provide contact details of three referees and daytime telephone numbers registered in their own names.
Applications must be hand-delivered to the respective District Election Administrator and should be clearly marked “Application for the post of Biometric Voter Verification Kit Trainer.” The deadline for submission is 21st November 2025.
The Electoral Commission noted that shortlisted candidates will be notified through notices pinned at District Election Administrator offices, indicating interview dates and venues. The Commission reaffirmed that it is an Equal Opportunity Employer, encouraging all qualified persons to apply.
