State House has dismissed claims circulating on social media that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s convoy caused the severe traffic jam experienced along the Kampala-Masaka Road, describing the allegations as false and misleading.

In an official press release issued on Tuesday 30th Dec 2025, the Presidential Press Unit said attributing the congestion to the President’s movement is inaccurate and ignores the broader factors that contributed to the situation.

According to State House, brief and time-bound road closures during presidential movements are standard operating procedures worldwide. And are carefully coordinated to minimize disruption to road users.Officials stressed that such measures alone could not have caused the hours-long traffic jam reported by motorists.

FORTEBET

Authorities outlined several key factors that significantly contributed to the congestion:

Heavy end-of-month traffic, as many of motorists were returning from upcountry following the festive season

Poor road discipline, including illegal lane creation and blocking of intersections by some drivers

Heavy rainfall, which reduced visibility and forced some vehicles to temporarily stop

Vehicle breakdowns and minor accidents at critical points along the highway

Increased traffic volume on a corridor already prone to congestion during peak periods

State House further noted that similar overnight delays occurred during the same period last year. Even when there were no presidential campaigns or movements along the route.

The Uganda Police Force and the Ministry of Works and Transport echoed State House’s position. Emphasizing that motorist indiscipline played a major role in worsening the situation.

Traffic police deployed additional officers, diversion measures, and emergency response teams to restore movement once conditions improved.

Independent reports and commuter accounts indicate that some motorists were stranded for several hours, with sections between Mpigi, Lungala, and Kamengo particularly affected.

What is typically a two-hour journey reportedly turned into an overnight ordeal for some travelers, prompting widespread public concern and online debate.

Authorities urged road users to remain patient, obey traffic regulations, and avoid politicizing incidents that require factual and professional assessment.

They emphasized that responsible driving is especially critical during heavy traffic periods and adverse weather conditions.

State House reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe and coordinated road use, while calling on the public to rely on official information rather than unverified claims circulating online.

Traffic congestion on major highways like Kampala–Masaka has become a recurring challenge during peak travel periods. Accurate information is essential to prevent misinformation and maintain public trust.
