The Electoral Commission (EC) has commenced the crucial task of packing and preparing ballot papers and sensitive election materials for dispatch to regional offices and secure storage locations ahead of the 15 January 2026 General Elections.

During a media briefing this morning in Kampala, Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, EC Chairperson, confirmed that presidential and parliamentary ballot papers — previously received under tight security — have now been segregated by polling station and organized for distribution.

“We have completed packing of core election materials, including transparent ballot boxes, voter registers, programming lists, and the ballot papers for presidential and parliamentary elections,” Byabakama said. “We are now moving into the dispatch phase, which will take place in a controlled and secure manner.”

According to the EC, dispatch of election materials has already begun with non-generic items such as transparent ballot boxes, solar lamps, indelible ink, official report books, and other critical polling station supplies being distributed to districts across the country.

The Commission confirmed that these materials are being transported under armed escort and with documented chain-of-custody protocols to ensure integrity from the EC warehouse to regional and sub-regional stores, where they will be held until the final deployment to polling stations.

Byabakama reiterated that Biometric Voter Verification Kits (BVVKs) will be paired with these materials at polling stations on election day, enabling the Commission’s modern verification system to ensure “one person, one vote.” He emphasized that this step fortifies credibility and transparency in how elections are conducted and results are tallied locally.

The EC also warned the public against unofficial online platforms claiming to offer electoral services, underscoring that only the Commission’s official channels and releases should be trusted to avoid misinformation.

Materials currently being dispatched will continue through the first week of January 2026, ensuring every regional office is fully resourced ahead of the election.
