According to Trumpet News, the duo is among six officials who face a number of charges arising out of shoddy procurement of relief items for Kasese flood victims.

However, out of the six accused officials, only three turned up at Anti-Corruption Court and only one was sent to Kitalya prison after failing to raise the required amount to secure bail.

Kizito Mugerwa, 41, the Ministry’s Procurement Officer failed to raise the money and was remanded to Kitalya until November 8.

Godfrey Kaima, 50, who serves as the Undersecretary and accounting officer, and his colleague Cyprian Dhikusooka, 49, shocked Court when they immediately mobilized the 100 million and walked away Scott free.

Mr. Kaima is accused of abusing the authority of his office and spent over 500 million into procuring substandard blankets and other relief materials for the Kasese residents who had been hit by floods in the month of June.

All the three were charged at the Anti Corruption Court with Corruption, Abuse of Office, and Causing Financial loss to the government of Uganda.

Their arrest and charging followed an investigation by Col Edith Nakalema into allegations of procurement of substandard food and non-food relief items meant for Kasese flood victims.

The assortment of these fake items which included 40,000kgs of maize flour, 20,000kgs of beans, 2,000kgs of sugar, 2,000 tarpaulin, 1,350 jerricans, 1,000 basins,100 cartons of laundry soap, 1,000 mosquito nets, 100 blankets, and 100 mats was rejected by the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja who wondered whether Kasese was a dumping ground.
