The Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon. Anita Among through the clerk to Parliament has suspended today’s Parliamentary sittings until further notice.

Among’s decision comes after a double bomb blast that hit the city this morning leaving many people injured and many more feared dead.

In a letter dated 16th November 2021 and signed by Adolf Mwesige Kasaija the clerk to Parliament, MPs were advised not to proceed to precincts of Parliament stressing that the security forces are working hard to restore order around the house.

“I have been directed by the Rt. Hon. Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Uganda to inform you that there will be no sitting of Parliament today.”

Mwesige appealed to the members and staff of Parliament to stay in their homes until they are advised of the next step.

The clerk to Parliament also advised the members of Parliament and staff who were already in the precincts during the explosion to remain there and stay calm as they wait for advice on how to exit those places.
