The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced its plan of a nationwide recruitment exercise for over 50,000 polling assistants to support the conduct of the 2026 General Elections.
The polling assistants will play a critical role in supporting election day operations, including assisting presiding officers, managing polling station logistics, and supporting the use of Biometric Voter Verification Kits (BVVKs).
EC officials indicated that applicants are expected to possess at least a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent and must be registered voters in their respective areas. Successful candidates will undergo structured training sessions ahead of polling day, focusing on election procedures, voter verification, and adherence to electoral laws.
The recruitment drive is part of the Commission’s broader human-resource mobilization strategy, which includes biometric kit trainers, operators, and other temporary election officials required to manage polling stations across the country.
The EC has consistently cautioned the public to rely only on official recruitment announcements issued through recognized channels, warning that unverified advertisements circulating on social media do not originate from the Commission.
By expanding its pool of trained polling assistants, the EC says it aims to ensure orderly polling, timely processing of voters, and adherence to established electoral procedures during the 2026 General Elections.
