KAMPALA – Speaking to the media this afternoon the Spokesperson of Government of Uganda Mr. Ofwono Opondo “OO” has congratulated Ugandans upon a recently successfully concluded, well-organized, orderly and peaceful Presidential and General Parliamentary election that happened on Thursday 14 January 2021.
As per constitutional requirement, the electoral body is mandated to declare results within 48 hours after closure of polls.
The results were duly announced by the Uganda Electoral Commission at 3:00pm EAST on Saturday 16 January 2021; where NRM’s Yoweri Museveni Tibuhabura Kaguta emerged President Elect of the Republic of Uganda.
Mr. Ofwono Opondo says the country has continued to enjoy tranquility without any major incidents of election violence malpractice or common criminality.
“We like to reassure Ugandans and the general public that this tranquility will continue to prevail beyond the immediate aftermath of the elections and into the future.”
The ruling NRM party has been declared successful at both presidential and parliamentary level, considering the respective vote scores and the performance of all political parties in the election.
Ugandans came out in good numbers to vote, representing 57.22% of the registered 18 million voters. The results were declared on 96% (34,684 polling stations) of the vote tally where by the yet to be declared votes from the remaining 1,223 polling stations do not significantly change the final outcome.
The election season in Uganda is still ongoing and shall conclude on 3 February 2021.
