The young lady, whose identity has been kept anonymous for privacy/security purposes, was allegedly convinced by Lydia that she was to come to the UK and work in the diplomat’s household and office. However she was trapped in the diplomat’s house working as a maid and providing childcare all for free(without payment). The victim therefore asked for for help from a friend who later led to the involvement of the police.

From a video recorded by the police as they arrested the United nations judge, Lydia Mugambe claimed that she had immunity as a United nations judge and high court judge in Uganda, but the United nations immunity was waived and action was taken for her to face justice for her unethical actions. She was on 2nd May 2025 charged in Oxford Crown Court and sentenced to six years and four months in jail. However, her accomplice , John Mugerwa did not face any criminal offense charges due to his diplomatic immunity.
