KAMPALA – Electoral officials and civic educators say clear public understanding of the Biometric Voter Verification Kit is critical to ensuring peaceful and orderly voting in Uganda’s January 2026 elections.
By verifying voter identity before ballots are issued, the BVVK is expected to reduce confusion at polling stations and strengthen confidence that the right person is voting in the right place. Public guidance ahead of the polls explains that the system uses voter records together with fingerprints or facial verification where needed.
“When voters understand how they will be identified and why these procedures exist, they are less likely to interpret ordinary verification as intimidation.” Nakayiwa Keziah Allen, BVVK Operator.
The EC has intensified voter education in the weeks leading up to the elections. For now, it advises the public to remain patient, rely on official information, and prepare early to exercise their civic right.
“Democratic stability is strengthened when citizens know both their rights and the process through which those rights are exercised.” – Julius Mucunguzi, EC Spokesperson.
Voters have been urged to attend community sensitisation sessions and to follow only EC-verified channel updates as election days approach.
