KAMPALA – As Uganda prepares for the January 2026 elections, the Electoral Commission says proper identification will be key for voters to be verified using the Biometric Voter Verification Kit.
According to public guidance issued by the commission ahead of the polls, voters must present documents that allow officials to match their details against the National Voters’ Register.
The EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama has confirmed that a National ID or voter location slip will be required at the polling station.
Officials say one of the aforementioned documents is an acceptable document or procedure and that bringing the correct document saves time and prevents delays at the polling station.
For voters who have lost their National IDs, they are advised to verify now that their National ID details are accurate and to follow Electoral Commission updates regarding any additional requirements in cases where inconsistencies arise between the two legally recognized documents.
