TURKEY – Uganda’s embassy in the Republic of Turkey (Ankara) has this evening responded to the social media misinformation from Hon. Francis Zaake Butebi and the National Unity Platform activists.
The National Unity Platform politician and Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament flew out of the country on 05th August with claims that he was running to rescue Vlogger/ social media Government critic and political activist Fred Lumbuye.
The politician further stated that on his arrival in Turkey he was to also gather information on why Lumbuye was arrested or kidnapped and also make specific human rights applications to the United Nations offices in Turkey for his release.
“The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Ankara, Turkey has taken note of the false, misleading online news articles alleging that Hon. Francis Zaake the Member of Parliament for Mityana Municipality, travelled to the Republic of Turkey to visit Mr Fred Lumbuye, a social media blogger and NUP Activist.
The Embassy would like to clarify that Hon. Francis Zaake travelled to Turkey as part of a Delegation of Parliamentary Commissioners and other members of Parliament on Official Government business to undertake a benchmarking visit at the request of Parliament of the Republic of Uganda. The visit is being coordinated by the Ugandan Embassy in Ankara with the relevant authorities of the Republic of Turkey.” (Photo below…)

The embassy has revealed that the delegation arrived on 5th August 2021 and is scheduled to meet with the different managements of Atlas University Hospital, Medical Park Hospital and Liv Hospital in Istanbul Turkey to discuss mechanisms of cooperation between these hospitals and Parliament.

The Ugandan authorities have trashed media reports alleging that the Hon. Member of Parliament travelled to Turkey for any other purposes other than official Government business and that it is unfortunate that the legislator is dwindling in lies sharing misleading information and that the public should disregard his falsehoods and misrepresentation.
In July this year, security officials in Uganda said that Lumbuye and several bloggers who are based in Europe were behind the social media false rumours about President Museveni’s death.
