Busoga MPs demand for return of Kingdom property. The Members of the Busoga Parliamentary Caucus are demanding for the return of or compensation for their kingdom property taken by the Government in 1966 after the abolition of cultural institutions.
The 9 MPs led by Stephen Kisa the MP Luuka South MP and chairperson of the caucus re-echoed the call in a press conference at Parliament ahead of the 7th coronation of the Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV on 13th this month.
According to Kisa, the Government of Uganda has so many properties that belong to Busoga and these should be given back, especially as the Basoga celebrate the anniversary.
He says the previous leadership has been asking for the return of land, forests, district headquarters, and properties currently occupied by Government agencies among others.
Manjeri Kyebakutika, the Jinja City MP says that it is very important that Government should consider the development of the region ahead of the coronation. She called on Government to return what belongs to Busoga. She says that the Government has returned other people’s property but not Busoga’s.
Asuman Basalirwa, the Bugiri Municipality MP said that the coronation of the Kyabazinga can be more appealing if Government takes over the University in Busoga.
Today, Monday 13th September 2021 William Gabula Nadiope will be installed as the Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdon in a 7th coronation celebration.
H.R.H Gabula the IV replaced the late Henry Wako Muloki who died on September 1, 2008. The event took place at Bugembe, the seat of the Kingdom of Busoga, drew huge crowds of people including the President, officials, delegations from other kingdoms, MPs, and ministers. These included Bunyoro King Solomon Gafabusa crowning Gabula as the Kyabazinga of Busoga, Prince Kasimu Nakibinge led the Buganda delegation.
Chiefs elected Gabula as Kyabazinga of Busoga and he received blessings as well in front of a huge crowd in a ceremony that took place at Bugembe, the seat of the Busoga Kingdom in Jinja.
On this day, Gabula took an oath of office, it is on this day that Gabula delivered his first speech as Kyabazinga of Busoga and he received the instruments of power (regalia). The cultural ceremony was covered widely by the media.
Museveni, in his speech, said Busoga needs unity and peace to move forward, The President also said that the leaders of Busoga need to dialogue as a channel of reconciliation.
