“We haven’t realized 70% of 63.1 billion shillings needed for constructing the Uganda Martyrs Museum project. Enock Rukundo the Administrator and site clerk of works at the Uganda museum Namugongo project has revealed that the project has not yet realized the 70%, but they are in process of mobilization.
‘Last year 2021, we started construction of the Uganda museum project in August and by this year 2022 in August we will be done. As per now works are on going as planned for one year. We are at the amphitheater.”
So far, we are raising the roof column, (18 of the 20 have been raised) and only two await completion. We believe in one month all this it will be done, Enock Rukundo said.
The works are being financed by the government of Uganda at a percentage of 30% and 70% from Church of Uganda and donations. The funding of the whole project is allocated in a phased manner approach; amphitheater, museum tower, entire beauty place among others and now 13.1 billion specifically for amphitheater erection. Finalizing the works on site will have a total cost of 63.1billion Uganda shillings.
Rukundo revealed that the project received six (6) billion shillings from the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Matia Kasaijja out of Eighteen (18) billion shillings pledged by the government which is facilitating the amphitheater and the project expects the government commitment of thirteen (13) billion Uganda shillings remaining balance to be used on completion works.
We want to thank our contractor, Siyan Brothers who are competently working hard, this work is supervised by officials from the Ministry of Works, Kira Municipal Council of Kira Municipality and monitored on a weekly basis.
The Uganda Martyrs Museum Namugongo project is projected to have occupancy of Ten thousand people (10.000) at ago which will escalate Uganda’s revenue as a tax collection base.
The contractor has encountered a challenge of a waterlogged site which regularly slows the engineering works however, the area has been fixed with rocks to drain away the water.
The president of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kagutta Museveni is expected to visit the site on 3rd June 2022 during the commemoration of Uganda Martyrs day.
“The Archbishop of Church of Uganda Dr. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has been talking to him and we hope that this time we will be with him.” Enock Rukundo, Administrator and site clerk of works Uganda Martyrs Museum Namugongo – Kira Municipality, Wakiso district said.
Rukundo says the dream is to develop the Uganda Martyrs Museum Namugongo to the level of the best tourism site not only for martyrs day but also Christians coming for prayers every day.
