Basena is Assistant Coach for Uganda Cranes

Basena is Assistant Coach for Uganda Cranes. Moses Basena has been appointed Assistant Coach of the Uganda Cranes. 

The appointment was confirmed in a statement released by the Federation of Uganda Football Association-FUFA. FUFA noted that Mbabazi opted to remain at his club, Arua Hill.

The newly appointed Cranes Coach Milutin Sredojević, Micho justified the appointment of Basena saying that he wanted to pattern with a coach who is not attached to any club.

The new rules also left out Abdallah Mubiru who has been interim coach when FUFA sacked Johnathan McKinstry.  Mubiru is the head coach of Police FC.

Recently, goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba also resigned from his job as Vipers head coach to concentrate on his new role at Uganda’s National team.    

This is the second time Micho being unveiled as Uganda Cranes head coach since his first tenure in 2013 – 2017.

Micho mutually terminated his employment contract with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) in a bid he preferred to return to Uganda “home”. Before leaving Uganda, Micho was deputized by Basena.

He becomes the fourth coach since 1965 to handle Uganda Cranes twice since Robert Kiberu (1966-1969 and 1988-1989), Peter Okee (1976-1981 and 1983) as well as Paul Hasule (1999 and 2001-2003).

Uganda is set to play three international friendly games against Syria and Ethiopia as they build up for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kenya and Mali. Micho has summoned a provisional squad of 30 players on Monday.
