Hon. Atkins’ backward Politics of Deception and Malice is not sustainable says Hason Mutunzi Bwambale. Hon. Katusabe Atkins is the Area MP for Bukonzo West Constituency in Kasese District. He has been in parliament since the people of his constituency chose him to replace Hon. Dr, Crispus Kiyonga in 2016. Atkins took advantage of the clean and mature politics of Dr. Kiyonga and resorted to lies and malice as his tools of propaganda.
During the 2016 polls, in Kasese the National Resistance Movement (NRM) lost to , the Forum for Democratic Party ( FDC). The sole win for the NRM was the Mayoral seat for Kasese Municipality won by the now Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku, State Minister of ICT and National Guidance.
At our last electoral cycle, and thanks to the efforts of Pres. Museveni and NRM progressives led by Hon. Kabbyanga, the NRM recaptured the constituencies of Busongora South, Busongora North and our Municipality of Kasese. The Kasese vote for President Museveni was also overwhelming and dealt a blow to FDCs Patrick Amuriat, Alliance for National Transformation’s Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu and of course Kyagulanyi and his NUP. The DP and UPC were no shows, relegated to compete for the tail end with John Katumba, Fred Mwesigye, Rtd Lt.Gen.Henry Tumukunde, Willy Mayambala, the beautiful Nancy Kalembe and the always angry Joseph Kabuleta.
This victory over the political opposition, spearheaded by President Museveni and progressives within the NRM Kasese Chapter led by Godfrey Kabbyanga came at the cost of our Mayoral seat now occupied by His Worship Chance Kahindo Sibyabugha.
In losing his seat, those opposed to Godfrey Kabbyanga such as Atkins Katusabe and a few others took to our immaculate town streets in celebration of what they thought was the political end of a worthy foe. However, in a Greek -tale like turn of events, the vicissitudes of fate had a card or three up their sleeve and H.E.President Museveni elevated Godfrey Kabbyanga to the position of State Minister for ICT and National Guidance.
Oh how the tide did turn!! Hon. Kabbyanga’s active participation in the by-election that saw Thembo Gideon Mujungu retain his seat on the green benches of Parlaiment is confirmation that the people of Kasese are now firmly back to the fold of the NRM and President Museveni.
The zeal with which Hon.Godfrey Kabbyanga continues to champion the realisation of universal socio-economic transformation in all corners of Kasese has met with admiration from those whose mission it is to see Kasese return to the pedestal of Uganda’s economic fortunes. From Kilembe to Kyarumba, from Hima to Hamkungu, from the plains of Karusandara to the buzzling streets of Mpondwe Lhubuhira – all of Kasese is now alive with an enthusiasm that is radiant in every action, every speech and every fire-place conversation of Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga.
This vibrance and enthusiasm is what, in my opinion, drives the sometimes Hon. Atkins Katusabe to adopt the backward politics of deception and malice. I see no reason whatsoever for Mr. Katusabe to continually attack a Mukonjo from Rusese for his embrace of development projects in Kasese and indeed in Mpondwe.
It is shameful that Mr. Katusabe working with a few others have chosen not to partner with those who by voting them into Parliament only seek to be part of our country’s unstoppable march to becoming and industrial and economic power house.
At this point in time, as we mourn the murder of our innocents in Mpondwe, we the people of Kasese should not dabble in the primitive squabble of thought that Atkins wants to reduce us to. No! Instead, we should look to men such as Hon. Kabbyanga who have abandoned the cushy comfort of their Kampala offices and instead opted to work with all our people in gallant defiance of the terrorist organisation that is ADF.
Shame on you Mr. Atkins for your continued and unfair attacks on Hon. Kabbyanga.
